This painting was created for presentation to the United States Navy flight demonstration team, the Blue Angels, by the men and women of the 182 Tactical Air Support Group, Illinois Air National Guard to show their appreciation for the team's performance at the unit's air show in 1986. The 182 T.A.S.G. is stationed at Peoria, Illinois and the painting depicts the Blue Angels over their base. You will notice only five of the team's six McDonnell Douglas A-4 Skyhawk aircraft visible in the painting. This omission is purposeful in honor of Lt. Cdr. Mike Gershon who tragically lost his life while performing with the team at an air show at Niagara Falls, New York earlier that year. The original painting is on display at the Blue Angels Museum, Pensacola, Florida.
